Mend the Broken Hearts Uganda (MBHU) runs an orphanage with over 60 children in the Mbarara. It was established on a fantastic initiative by one of the organization’s founder, called Sheilah Ampaire, and is now led by the energetic young lady called Babra Ninsiima, who herself was raised in the home.Babra is also the taking a lead role in the hygiene initiatives especially for school girls.
Orphanage pins with some of the many children
The centre led by Babra and other volunteers provide the children with maternal care and make sure that they are safe and well and that as many as possible come to school, although it is difficult to raise money in the end.the Self-Help Support Association in Uganda (SSU), provides school sponsors for many of the children at the orphanage. Every time just one of the children gets the opportunity to go to school thanks to a sponsor, it makes a huge difference for the individual child as well as for the entire orphanage.
The Danish Support Association also provides three annual operating grants of approximately DKK 8,000 each to the orphanage. The amounts are paid immediately before the holidays between the three school periods of the year, where many children come home to the orphanage from their boarding schools and where extra money is needed for food and other support.
The Support Association Supported MBHUs initiative to build a much-needed new building for the many children. It was built in the years 2010-2012, after the number of children in the home increased sharply and more space was needed to house them. With four grants totaling just over DKK 100,000 during the construction period, the Support Association financed most of the construction. Of this, DKK 30,000 came from a grant from the Employees’ Honorary Fund in the Novo Group in 2011, which was primarily for roofs, doors and windows.
